Halloween Dragon

This an entry for The Dragon Challenge. October's theme was Halloween.

I wanted to paint a full moon and pumpkin lanterns for the dragon. This is also a study of light, as it has multiple light sources. Moon and lanterns are obvious ones but dragon's plates, horns and nails are luminous too.

Done with acrylic paints. I had to take a picture of this painting as it is too large to fit into the scanner and that's why some parts of the painting appear a bit shiny. Glossy finish is also characteristic to acrylics but shiny effect is not this strong in the original painting. I might edit it out later.

It wasn't possible to take picture in sun light for this entry, as I just finished this a couple of hours ago today and sun had already set here in Finland. Today is also the last day to submit entries for the October challenge.

I'll probably take better picture later which will increase the sharpness and make the darkest shades of blue, violet and red in the dragon's scales visible. Now they all appear just plain black.

I know this sound a little bit desperate but I have seen so much trouble to finish this painting in time and I just really want to take apart to the challenge.

Took me about 12-15 hours to paint and it was pure pain at times.
